The Meaning of Alastair The Man Behind the Page Alastair's BLOG Contact Alastair

What Is This Page About?

Simply put to honor the Alastairs of the world.

While doing some research for my motivational speaking site, AlastairHunte.com, I decided to do a quick Google search on the name Alastair primarily to see where I would rank among the sites.  It amazed me how many people across the world were named Alastair with the exact same spelling as mine own.  Especially, since I thought that mine was quite unique.  To go a step further, I was even more amazed at the successes of the Alastairs I found in their chosen fields.  Being from the awesome state of Texas, I have to say that I seldom run into others with the name Alastair.

Growing up my parents always taught me to be extremely proud of my name, which has always stayed with me.  It is for this reason that I decided to dedicate an entire site to honoring those who share my name.

The goal here is to have some fun, while at the same time inviting others to get to know these great Alastairs.  To my knowledge this has never been done before making me feel proud to do something for my fellow name-holders.  There are no frills, bells, or whistles here just a simple site to pay tribute to those named Alastair (see my web design company Presario Productions for those types of sites).

Visit my BLOG where I will share my search experience.  As well, I have listed some of the other projects I am currently involved in (this is found in the section titled, 'The Man Behind the Page').

Thanks,
Alastair Hunte, M.B.A., B.B.A

Usage: Scottish
Anglicized form of ALASDAIR which is the Scottish form of ALEXANDER

Who is Alastair Williamson?
Website(s): http://www.whereisalastair.com/
Description:  Alastair is traveling around the world and tracking his adventures on his website, www.whereisalastair.com. Here is his description from his 'About Me' page: "I was born in Bristol, England on 4th October 1977. I lived there until I was about 6 and then my family moved to the Cotswolds. Playing football in the road and building dens, that was pretty much what we did in the country and exploring of course! After asking for a computer for about 3 years Dad travelled half way across the country and bought our first PC! This was where my passion for I.T. began.

Over 6 years I had worked as a Network Manager, Network Architect, Professional Trainer and a Data Integration Analyst. I now (or at least I did...) work as a Senior Business Consultant for a respectable company in London. I've flown many countries on business and been to 8 more personally. It's time to really see the world and report back what's really out there. The main theme of my trip is to see the Natural Wonders of the world."

Who is Alastair McMullan?
Website(s): http://www.bikepics.com/members/hairybiker/
Description:  He says is better than I can - so I will quote from his page: Alastair is a strange, almost ethereal creature. Who can plumb the hidden mysteries of his dark and murky past? A past which contains a terrible secret. A secret that taught him that with great power comes great responsibility, that criminals are a cowardly superstitious lot and just who exactly knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men. By day, he assumes the appearance of a mild mannered Multimedia Officer, bringing the joy of Powerpoint and digital cameras to classes of enthralled and enthusiastic students. But by night? By night he goes home and writes lesson plans. Sorry. That´s as interesting as he gets. Really. The rumours about rooftop struggles with underworld superfiends, the gossip about the hidden cave filled with hi-tech equipment and the suggestion that his motorbike might be fitted with turbo lasers are all nonsense. When he´s not teaching he reads comics. Sometimes he combines the two activities. When he´s not doing that he´s either biking, drinking, working out at the gym, playing computer games, brewing his own beer, or asleep.

Who is Alastair MacIntosh?
Website(s): http://www.macintoshglass.com
Description: He says is better than I can - so I will quote from his page: "At Edinburgh College of Art, where I was a student intending to specialise in Graphic Design, there was a Glass Design Department.  Curiosity got the better of me one day and I decided to try out glass as a secondary design subject.  Ken Wainwright, the master glassmaker, showed me the furnace and how to gather the 'metal' - (molten glass). As my first attempt to do this flowed off the end of the iron and on to the floor, I realised that glassmaking was not going to be as easy as it looked, but knew right away that I had to learn it! ........... I'm still learning, more than 30 years later.

I joined the Caithness Glass Design team in 1987, based in Perth and made a contribution to design and development of paperweights in particular, as well as art-glass and corporate specials. These often consisted of exclusive designs for giftware or collectable items, and also trophies and awards for sport and business.

In 2003  I  left Caithness Glass and now  design and make glass under my own name.  Glass is a remarkable material for any artist to work with. It can be incredibly strong and yet brittle. It has a clarity and beauty of its own. It has been a source of wonder and fascination to me for many years and I hope that it will give you insight and inspiration too. "

Who is Alastair Humphreys?
Website(s): www.alastairhumphreys.com
Description: In his own words (and spoken like a true writer): "Whilst at Edinburgh and Oxford Universities Alastair undertook several expeditions, cycling from Pakistan to China (Karakoram Highway), Land's End to John O'Groats, Turkey to Italy, Mexico to Panama and across South America. Alastair ran a charity project in the Philippines and the London marathon dressed as a rhino. After Oxford Alastair cycled round the world for 4 years. He has also raced a yacht across the Atlantic Ocean and canoed 500 miles down the Yukon River.

Alastair has published two books. He ran the Marathon des Sables, finishing as one of the ten fastest Brits despite breaking his foot during the race. To fight off the wanderlust Alastair managed a sub-3-hour marathon, had a miserable time during the Original Mountain Marathon, the Devizes to Westminster 120-mile canoe marathon and another one during Tough Guy. Travelling round the soccer World Cup in a camper van was much more fun.

After turning 30, and spending a year teaching 10-year-old boys in a school's Special Needs department, Alastair is now preparing for SOUTH, the first unsupported return journey to the South Pole and the longest unsupported polar journey in history. He pays the bills through public speaking, fulfilling a long ambition in 2008 by speaking to a full house at the Royal Geographical Society. Alastair is married to the long-suffering Sarah and is a long-suffering fan of Leeds United."
